in echo park…the pure water store

Hello everyone, Happy post 4th of July.

I have a lot of catching up to do but first I have to describe the pure water store.

There are places called “Pure Water” that you take an empty plastic container and they’ll fill it up with super filtered water for .25/ gallon.

Tim says to stay away from the tap water, although I’ve used it for coffee a couple of times.

So this very nice Korean man manages the pure water store closest to Tim’s apartment. Since the water is only .25 a gallon he has his wall full of point of purchase merchandise to help generate profit.

A small sampling:

cell phone ear pieces

cell phone cases

pink cell phone stickers for that “barbie” personalized look

gum

M&M’s

Floor mats for your truck.

A baseball that says “dodgers” on it.

a traditional 25ft phone cord.

d sized batteries

fingernail clippers

krazy glue

and on the floor, a stand up water cooler that has an airbrushed young woman on the front.

Think Brooke Shields cir. 1982 with the feathered hair.

This item could be yours for a cool $137.

I got my 5 gallons of water and paid the nice Korean man $1.25. I wondered as I left if anyone bought any of that stuff.

That 5 gallons of water got really heavy while walking home. I had that great Missing Persons song from the 80’s in my head, “nobody walks in L.A.” Although I’ll heed the lyrics next time, I still got a good work out.

Thanks for checking in,

Stephen A. Thomas

Not able to drink the water? It sounds like you ended up in Tijuana. At any rate throw the guy a bone, and pick up some nail clippers or something.

That’s interesting, actually. Bad water in CA; I never would have imagined. Is that naivete?
